SDG 14: Life Below Water
As a premier institution in fisheries and marine sciences, MSUN actively safeguards marine biodiversity. Research on coral reef restoration, marine pollution, and sustainable fisheries informs national and regional conservation policies. Community-based coastal resource management programs engage fisherfolk in protecting marine habitats while ensuring livelihood sustainability. MSUN’s commitment to marine conservation reflects its deep connection to the sea and its vital role in sustaining life.
MSUN delivers strong educational and extension programs on freshwater ecosystems and water management. Through its Research and Extension offices, the university runs projects on aquaculture breeding, freshwater prawn and tilapia culture, microplastic and litter assessments, and water quality monitoring. These are paired with community trainings, workshops, and outreach that equip local farmers, fisherfolk, and stakeholders with sustainable irrigation, conservation, and aquaculture practices. By aligning with UN SDGs on clean water, responsible production, and life below water, MSU at Naawan ensures its research directly benefits both local and national communities.
