Strengthening Scientific Collaboration Through Microplastic Research Training at MSU–General Santos City
The MSUN Center for Microplastic Research and Innovation (CMRI) successfully conducted the Microplastic Analysis Training Workshop organized by the Department of Biological Sciences, the Department of Chemistry, and the Regional Science Research Center of Mindanao State University - General Santos City.
This initiative is also a product of the ongoing Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN) and Mindanao State University–General Santos (MSU-Gensan), strengthening collaborative efforts in research, training, and scientific capacity-building on microplastic pollution studies and environmental monitoring.
The two-day workshop provided participants with hands-on training and laboratory experience in microplastics detection, quantification, microscopy, density separation, and FTIR-based polymer identification, strengthening scientific capacity in environmental pollution monitoring and marine conservation research.
We would also like to recognize the resource speakers from the Microthreatenence Team: Ms. Zy D. Perpetua, MSc – Faculty Researcher and Collaborator, Ms. Jeanie T. Orate – Science Research Specialist I, Ms. Hanah Maurice D. Tabada – Science Research Specialist I and Ms. Emmanuelle P. Almonte – Project Development Officer I.
Thank you to all organizers, participants, and partner institutions for making this training workshop successful. Together, we continue advancing research, innovation, and collaborative efforts in addressing the growing challenge of microplastic pollution.
