On February 14, 2025, Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN) and Northwestern Mindanao State College of Science and Technology (NMSCST) formalized their collaboration through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to strengthen microplastic research, training, and academic exchange. The agreement allows NMSCST’s BS Biology and BS Environmental Science students and researchers to access MSUN’s MicroPlastics Center for research and technical training.
The MOA was signed by MSUN Chancellor Dr. Elnor C. Roa and NMSCST President Dr. Nelson P. Cabral, with key witnesses including Dr. Renoir A. Abrea (former MSUN Vice-Chancellor for Research and Extension), Dr. Ruby C. Gonzales (former MSUN Director for Research), Dr. Rey Y. Capangpangan (Director, MSUN Center for Microplastics Research and Innovation), and Dr. Ferlyn V. Logronio (NMSCST Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs).
This partnership aims to provide research opportunities, mentorship programs, and consultancy services related to microplastic pollution. MSUN will offer training sessions on microplastic analysis and laboratory techniques, as well as foster academic linkages and knowledge exchange in environmental science.
Through this initiative, both institutions reaffirm their commitment to environmental sustainability and scientific innovation, working together to advance research on microplastic pollution and its impact.
