On February 12, 2024, the School of Marine Fisheries and Technology, in partnership with the Office of the Extension Division, successfully conducted the second stocking of 600 tilapia fingerlings in Sitio Pasagdihon, Barangay Tagbalogo, Naawan, Misamis Oriental.
This initiative forms part of the extension project “Responding to COVID-19 Challenges for the AANR Sector: A NOMCAARRD Initiative,” which aims to support local livelihoods and strengthen food security in coastal communities affected by the pandemic.
The activity serves as a significant contribution to community development by offering an alternative and sustainable source of livelihood through tilapia farming. It not only enhances local food security but also empowers partner beneficiaries with practical knowledge and skills in aquaculture. By promoting small-scale fish production, the initiative facilitates income generation, improves nutritional well-being, and bolsters the community’s resilience to ongoing socio-economic challenges triggered by COVID-19.
This undertaking reflects MSU at Naawan’s unwavering commitment to sustainable aquaculture development, inclusive growth, and its role as a catalyst for community-based resilience and food sovereignty in the region.
