Mindanao State University at Naawan, through its Agri-Aqua Technology Business Incubator (MSUN ATBI), proudly celebrated a significant achievement in support of the agri-aqua sector during the 64th Founding Anniversary of Lugait, Misamis Oriental. This milestone coincided with the completion of the project “Responding to COVID-19 Challenges for the AANR Sector: NOMCAARRD and MSU at Naawan Initiatives on Tilapia Production,” highlighting the accomplishments of KAAGAP Consumers Livelihood Association (KAAGAP CLA), one of MSUN ATBI’s newly onboarded incubatees.
The Quick Response Project (QRP) reflects MSUN ATBI’s commitment to empowering farmers and fisherfolk in Misamis Oriental by providing technical assistance, capacity building, and access to sustainable production models. Building on MSUN ATBI’s active collaboration with the ATBI network in Northern Mindanao, including CMU ATBI, this initiative demonstrates the university’s role in strengthening local agri-aqua enterprises and fostering technology-driven solutions at the community level.
KAAGAP CLA, a registered livelihood association based in Purok 1A, Kaluknayan, Lugait, comprises 27 members engaged in income-generating ventures such as tilapia and egg production. Over the past four years, the association has successfully implemented scalable, low-capital production models that enhance member livelihoods while building community resilience. Through MSUN ATBI’s mentorship and technical support, KAAGAP CLA has overcome operational challenges and achieved measurable success in local tilapia production.
The success of the project was further supported by the Local Government of Lugait and its Municipal Agriculture Office, reinforcing the importance of strong university–LGU partnerships in advancing innovation-driven community development. Through initiatives like this, MSUN ATBI continues to promote sustainable agri-aqua practices, improve local food security, and create economic opportunities for farmers, fisherfolk, and small-scale entrepreneurs across the region.
This milestone not only commemorates Lugait’s founding anniversary but also underscores MSUN’s dedication to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and community empowerment, strengthening Northern Mindanao’s agri-aqua sector for long-term growth and resilience.
