On March 4, 2024, the Gender and Development (GAD) Office at Mindanao State University at Naawan, in collaboration with the Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM), spearheaded an advocacy initiative for university employees and the local community.
The core of this activity involved the distribution of informational materials designed to raise awareness about gender equality and women’s rights. The materials specifically focused on providing crucial information regarding national policies, including the Solo Parents' Welfare Act and the Magna Carta for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
This initiative is a key part of the university's broader commitment to addressing and closing disparities in educational access for marginalized communities. By ensuring that community members are well-informed of their rights and the support structures available under these laws, the program aims to promote equal opportunities for all.
The ultimate goal is to empower individuals from diverse backgrounds, enabling them to pursue their academic and professional aspirations free from discrimination. This effort also seeks to foster a deeper culture of respect and understanding within the institution, creating a more welcoming and supportive environment for students and staff of all genders and abilities.
MSU at Naawan believes that through sustained, collaborative efforts between policymakers, educators, and community stakeholders, we can collectively build a more equitable and inclusive educational system that truly values diversity and champions social justice.
