In its continuous effort to promote environmental stewardship and responsible SEAtizenship, on February 21, 2024, the team Clean Ocean from Mindanao State University at Naawan recently conducted the final leg of its project, “Clean Ocean: Community Learning Sessions on Solid Waste Segregation for Households in Coastal Areas.”
The team successfully distributed Communication, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) materials and project calendars to various coastal barangays in Naawan, symbolizing the successful completion of the project’s first phase. These materials aim to reinforce the knowledge gained during the learning sessions and to serve as daily reminders of each household’s role in protecting the marine environment.
The initiative, rooted in participatory learning and community empowerment, focused on raising awareness about proper solid waste segregation and its vital role in reducing marine pollution. Through these sessions, local residents gained practical knowledge and tools to become active partners in preserving ocean health and promoting sustainable coastal living.
But the mission doesn't end here. Team Clean Ocean is set to return with more impactful activities in 2024, including community clean-up drives, capacity-building workshops, and expanded outreach across other barangays.
As MSU at Naawan continues to strengthen its commitment to coastal conservation and environmental education, it invites everyone to join the movement and be a responsible SEAtizen—because cleaner oceans begin with informed and engaged communities.
