On February 12, 2024, the Office of the Extension Division, in partnership with the College of Marine and Allied Sciences, brought its advocacy for ocean protection straight to the shores of Barangay Maputi, Naawan.
As part of the extension project “Clean Ocean Public Forums: Solid Waste Segregation for Households in Coastal Areas,” the team met with community members to share practical knowledge and distribute Communication, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) materials focused on proper solid waste management.
The visit wasn’t just about giving out materials, it was about starting a conversation. It was about listening to the people of Maputi and reinforcing the idea that every household plays a vital role in keeping our oceans clean.
By empowering residents with the right information and tools, MSU at Naawan hopes to help communities take the lead in protecting their local marine environment.
The activity reflects MSU at Naawan’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement. It’s a reminder that cleaner oceans begin not only with science, but with people, aware, informed, and ready to take action.
Let’s keep working together—for the ocean, for our communities, and for the generations to come.
