On January 24, 2024, the Office of the Extension Division actively participated in the regular session of the Linangkayan Barangay Council, marking another step in our ongoing series of barangay visits within Naawan, Misamis Oriental. The primary aim of these visits is to cultivate partnerships that contribute to community empowerment and development. Harry Kenn T. Dela Rosa, University Extension Specialist, took the opportunity to elucidate the diverse range of programs and services offered by MSU at Naawan, encouraging collaboration with Barangay Linangkayan.
During the interactive open forum, the council expressed a keen interest in advancing the planned installation of signages along their coastal areas. These signages will play a crucial role in promoting proper waste disposal, aligning with the extension project initiated by the College of Marine and Allied Sciences. Notably, the barangay has already earmarked funds for this project, eagerly awaiting MSU at Naawan's plans and actions.
Furthermore, the council expressed a strong desire to partner with MSU at Naawan in implementing a comprehensive Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign. The focus of this campaign would be on solid waste management, targeting the various puroks within Barangay Linangkayan. The objective is to enlighten constituents about the importance of proper waste segregation and disposal practices.
In response to these collaborative aspirations, MSU at Naawan is committed to working closely with the Linangkayan Barangay Council. Together, we will champion the cause of proper solid waste management, fostering a sustainable and environmentally responsible community. This shared commitment exemplifies the synergy between academia and local governance, showcasing the potential for impactful partnerships in the pursuit of communal progress.
