On February 14, 2024, Ms. Desheree Judena Preciado, the Gender and Development (GAD) Coordinator for MSU at Naawan, brought her expertise to Bukidnon State University – Talakag Campus. She served as the key resource person for the university's Basic Orientation on Gender and Development, marking a significant and positive collaboration between the two state institutions.
This engagement was a meaningful step in the continuing advocacy to embed inclusivity and gender awareness deep within academic communities. The MSU Naawan GAD Office eagerly embraced the opportunity to connect with the students, faculty, and staff at BSU-Talakag.
The orientation's core mission was to deepen the community's understanding of complex gender-related issues, actively challenge persistent stereotypes, and foster a campus culture that not only accepts but genuinely celebrates diversity. Recognizing that a respectful learning environment is essential for academic success and personal growth, the session aimed to provide practical insights for all attendees.
During her comprehensive session, Ms. Preciado particularly highlighted the critical importance of creating and nurturing safe, empowering spaces. She defined these as environments where all individuals, regardless of their background, can freely express their identities without fear of prejudice, harassment, or discrimination.
Ms. Preciado emphasized that acknowledging and respecting diverse gender expressions, orientations, and cultural backgrounds is not a passive act but an active, ongoing commitment from everyone in the community. This respect, she explained, is fundamental to upholding human dignity and is essential for supporting the holistic development of every student and staff member.
This collaborative initiative clearly demonstrates MSU at Naawan's unwavering commitment to advancing gender equality. It shows a dedication to building inclusive, respectful, and mindful communities, extending its advocacy and support beyond its own institutional boundaries to partner with fellow academic institutions.
