BITS and DICT X Lead Cybersecurity Campaign at MSUN

On January 30, 2024, Mindanao State University at Naawan students and student leaders gathered at the Training Student Activity Center (TSAC) for a Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign, spearheaded by the MSUN Body of Information Technology Students (BITS) in collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region X.
The program opened with remarks from Rafael J. Vicente, BITS Adviser, who highlighted the importance of cybersecurity knowledge in today’s digital age. Representatives from DICT Region X, Mr. Muhammad Ali Ibrahim, Ms. Acmilah M. Macabuay, and Mr. Brent John D. Morales, presented on the intricacies of cybersecurity issues, providing practical guidance on online safety and responsible digital behavior.
PPSSgt. Julie Faye T. Padin-Condeza of PNP-Naawan emphasized the importance of staying vigilant and well-informed about Republic Act 10175, the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, urging students to actively protect themselves and others in the online environment.
The seminar engaged BSIT students, student leaders from the SSC, college executive councils, course-based societies, first-year Education students, and first-year BSBA-HRM students, as per Special Order #069, Series of 2024, signed by the University Chancellor. The OSSD team, led by Director Assistant Professor Sylvia Labial, also participated to support the initiative.
This campaign aimed to enhance awareness of cybercrime, equip students with knowledge to safeguard digital spaces, and foster a culture of cybersecurity vigilance. By advocating for responsible online behavior, the program contributes to building a safer, more secure digital community within the university and beyond.
