Members of the Marine Biological Society of the College of Marine and Allied Sciences (CMAS), under the supervision of their adviser, Asst. Prof. Lovella R. Calala, demonstrated their commitment to environmental conservation through a tree planting activity held in Tugasnon, Alubijid last March 7, 2024.
In collaboration with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Alubijid, the initiative was spearheaded by Mr. Barry S. Balacuit, Sanitary Inspector IV under the Municipal Environmental and Natural Resource Office. The tree planting took place in an area near the Alubijid landfill, aiming to enhance the ecological balance of the region.
The event saw the active participation of graduating students of Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology, as well as teachers from Alubijid National Comprehensive High School including Mr. Rex M. Roxas who also facilitated the engagement, ensuring the smooth execution of the activity.
About 43 seedlings of native trees were planted during the event, symbolizing a collective effort towards restoring and preserving the natural biodiversity of the area.
Furthermore, the success of this noble endeavor would not have been possible without the unwavering support of Alubijid Municipal Mayor Hon. Emmanuel L. Jamis, whose commitment to environmental stewardship is commendable.
The tree planting activity serves as a testament to the dedication of the Marine Biological Society of the Mindanao State University at Naawan and the LGU of Alubijid towards sustainable development and the protection of mother nature's gifts. It is hoped that such initiatives will inspire communities to take proactive steps in safeguarding the environment for future generations.
