On January 19, 2024, the Office of the Extension Division of Mindanao State University at Naawan actively participated in the regular session of the Barangay Council of Lubilan, Naawan, Misamis Oriental. This engagement forms part of MSUN’s broader initiative to connect with local communities and promote inclusive development through collaboration and empowerment.
During the session, Director for Extension Mariefe B. Quiñones presented the university’s wide array of extension programs and services available to support barangay initiatives. The dialogue opened meaningful opportunities for partnership as the Lubilan Barangay Council expressed their commitment to advancing community welfare.
Among the key concerns raised was the request for MSUN’s assistance in sustaining their tilapia production project initially provided by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). The council also sought support in launching a Career Guidance Program tailored for Grade 10 students, in partnership with the Sangguniang Kabataan. Furthermore, they appealed for technical support in enhancing the council’s capacity to craft effective project proposals for external funding opportunities.
Following the council session, the MSUN team visited Lubilan Integrated School (LIS) for a meeting with Principal Jake Conog and faculty members. The discussion focused on the planned implementation of three extension projects led by the College of Education and Social Sciences, aimed at strengthening teaching and learning in English, Science, and Mathematics.
This engagement underscores MSUN’s commitment to responsive and collaborative extension work, laying the groundwork for long-term, transformative partnerships that support educational advancement and local development in Barangay Lubilan.
