The Local Government Unit of Naawan, the Municipal Police Station, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region X conduct anti-illegal drug information drive, where all MSU at Naawan faculty and students participated at the Training and Student Activity Center (TSAC) on December 6, 2024.
The program began with opening remarks delivered by Asst. Prof. Sylvia C. Labial, OSSD Director. Following this, Mayor Dennis L. Roa expressed his pride in the recent board topnotchers and passers from MSU at Naawan. He also reminded students to stay away from illegal drugs and focus on their studies.
PMAJ Bermil G. Alinas, Officer-in-Charge of the Naawan Municipal Police Station (NMPS), highlighted the dangers of drug abuse. He explained that drug abuse is not only illegal but also harmful to mental and physical health, potentially affecting academics, work, and personal life. He emphasized that drug abuse could lead to depression and even death due to overdose.
Intelligence Officer 1, Djamaekha Dee Jaylo, discussed drug abuse prevention education, explaining that drugs are substances that alter the body. She elaborated on the two types of drugs: legal and illegal, and the various ways illegal drugs can be taken, including smoking, inhaling, oral, injection, suppository, and topical application. She concluded with a remark, "Too much good is bad; this is the danger of dopamine."
Moreover, Intelligence Officer 2, Michael Brandon Abarquez, discussed Republic Act No. 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. He identified individuals who could be charged under the law, including drug users, pushers, possessors, cultivators, importers, manufacturers, financiers, and protectors.
He explained Article 2 of RA No. 9165, which outlines unlawful acts and corresponding penalties. He stated that life imprisonment or the death penalty, along with fines ranging from five hundred thousand pesos (₱500,000.00) to ten million pesos (₱10,000,000.00), can be imposed on individuals who, without authorization, import or possess dangerous drugs. He ended his talk with the quotation, "Your life, your choice."
