In observance of Fire Prevention Month this March, the Campus Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) of Mindanao State University at Naawan (MSUN) organized a Fire Safety Lecture and Hands-On Drills on March 20, 2024, at the MSUN Training and Student Activity Center and Oval.
The event kicked off with an engaging and informative lecture by SFO2 Arvie C. Fernandez from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), which covered vital fire safety protocols, emergency response measures, and best practices for fire prevention. The session aimed to raise awareness and build a safety-first mindset among participants.
Following the lecture, BFP personnel conducted a series of practical demonstrations that included the correct use of fire extinguishers, handling of leaking LPG tanks, operation of fire hoses and nozzles, and a dynamic water bucket relay. These hands-on activities provided attendees with crucial skills for effectively managing real-life fire emergencies.
The event drew enthusiastic participation from MSUN students and employees alike, reflecting the university community’s shared commitment to safety and preparedness.
In his closing remarks, Asst. Prof. Jay Philmore B. Ansale, CDRRMO Coordinator, expressed his gratitude to the BFP team and all participants. He also led the distribution of certificates to the BFP personnel in recognition of their valuable contribution to the university’s fire safety initiatives.
This fire safety activity underscores MSUN’s continued efforts to foster a culture of resilience, preparedness, and proactive disaster risk management across the campus.
